ASR pyrolysis: energy and metals recovery
Automotive Shredded Residues (ASR) result from the reclamation process of recyclable ferrous and non-ferrous metals. The primary source of recyclable materials comes from automobiles, trucks, buses and common household appliances such as washers, dryers and refrigerators.
ASR generally consists of a mixture of plastics, rubber, glass, wood products, cloth, paper, foam, dirt, and electrical wiring. Average calorific value of shredder fraction is 16-2o MJ/kg. Some streams after shredder can have high plastics content and the calorific value may rise to 40 MJ/kg.
It is obvious that incinerators have a big problem to handle ASR. The industrial ASR pyrolysis system generates pyrolysis gas followed by generation of electricity. ASR pyrolysis facility is characterized by high efficiency power generation, additionally recycling the non-oxidized metals.
